100 Up For Wesolowski

12 February 2014

Latics midfielder James Wesolowski marked his 100th appearance for the club at the weekend in the 1-1 draw with Bristol City.

The Australian, who joined Oldham in 2011, has been a regular starter in his three years and can’t believe how quick his time has been with the club.

He said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time here. The team hasn’t been as successful as I’d hoped but we’ve had some good cup runs and I’ve met some great people. Hopefully we can finish the season off well and then re-evaluate for next season.

“We’ve been playing some good stuff lately. At the start of the season, we were playing well but didn’t have the winning mentality. We are now playing more as a team and we’ve definitely improved.”

With the midfielder reaching the milestone, Wesolowski reflected on his time with the club, citing the recent game against one of his former clubs as a particular highlight.

“Every Liverpool game has been pretty special and the Peterborough game earlier in the season was a definite highlight,” explained the 26-year-old. “That game was probably a better feeling than the Liverpool game. Especially to score a goal against my old team and win like we did. It was just a crazy feeling.”

Having scored only five goals in a Latics shirt, the midfielder admits he should be getting more and has set himself a target for the rest of the season.

“I’ve always wanted to score more goals and I want to be getting at least five a season,” said the Australian. “That’s my goal and if I get above that, I’ll be happy. I need to make sure I get a few more to help the strikers out because it can be tough if the rest of the team aren't helping out.”
