RIP Tony Hateley

Former Latics striker Tony Hateley has died at the age of 72.

Hateley scored over 200 league goals during his career and was a club-record signing for both Chelsea and Liverpool. Hateley began his career with Notts County before moving to Villa Park. After scoring 68 times in 127 league appearances for Aston Villa he moved to Chelsea then Liverpool.

Following spells in the Midlands with Coventry City and Birmingham City he returned to his first club Notts County where he helped the Magpies win the Fourth Division in 1971.

Latics became his last Football League club where he made a total of 5 appearances scoring 1 goal during the 1973/74 season, Latics clinching the Third Division Championship at the end of the campaign.

The thoughts of everyone at Boundary Park go out to his family and friends at this sad time.
