Harkins: "It'll Be A Tough Game"

14 February 2014

Latics loanee Gary Harkins has settled in well to the club since signing on loan from St Mirren in January.

The midfielder, who is with Latics until the end of the season, has delivered impressive displays since arriving and is delighted to be getting a run in the side.

He said: “The gaffer knows that I’m happy to play anywhere. If I’m doing alright for the team then I’m happy. I’ve played out wide before so I don’t mind getting asked to do it.

“Since I’ve been here, if we've not won, I come off disappointed. We’ve done really well in all the games and hopefully we can turn more performances into wins.”

Previewing the game against MK Dons on Saturday, the Scottish midfielder is looking forward to getting another 90 minutes under his belt.

“I feel fine. I’m only 29 so I should be playing 90 minutes,” admitted the midfielder. “It’s a big pitch, quite a new stadium and I think they play rugby on it, so I can’t see it being the best playing surface. It will be a tough game.

With seven games in the next 28 days, including the home fixture against the Dons in ten days time, Harkins isn’t getting too carried away with the fixtures.

“We'll probably learn about MK Dons, who we are up against and maybe take that into the home game," said the 29-year-old. "At the moment, we are only looking at one game at a time and looking to get three points.”
