J D Williams Team Of The Week

22 February 2014

We would today like to welcome Chadderton Juniors u9s to Boundary Park, who are our 'J D Williams Team Of The Week' for this afternoon's fixture against Gillingham.

Here is a little more information about the team.

Squad: Leon Maloney, Sam Hurst, Noah Sharp, Josh Park, Declan Rossi, Charlie Shriane, Harvey Curren, Thomas Thorpe, Brandon Laban, Isaac Carroll, Luke Ferrand, Jack Tindall, Jack Flynn, Brodie Goldie, Ciaran Finegan, Mason Everton, Jackson Maguire, Mason Pickup.

Managers: Matt Hall and Gary Pickup.

When the team came together in 2011, it was very easy to see even in those early days that they were a talented bunch of players who would grow as a team over time. Since entering into the East Manchester Junior Soccer League at under 7s level, they have been progressing extremely well achieving back-to-back promotions and winning the under 8s divisional cup final 3-1 last season.

The most pleasing aspect of this developing team is the togetherness and camaraderie. Not only are the lad’s very talented footballers, but they are friends off the pitch as well which shows once they cross that white line, they know what job they have to do.

The footballing beliefs of both the management and parents are to encourage the team to play an open passing game allowing them to concentrate more on the technical aspects of the game rather than the old fashioned ‘lump it up to the big man’ style of previous English generations.

This season is the first the lads have had to adapt to playing against different styles of play and have more than held their own in their highest league to date. Moving forward, the plan is to keep as much of the side together as possible and continue to develop at the pace they are doing as a unit.

Chadderton Juniors: The club was formed in 1992 with one team following the breakup of Collyhurst & Moston JFC and a merger with Chadderton Strikers. The club has grown in size and extended the range of age groups from U7 to U16 and has on occasion provided football at U17 and U18 level. The teams play in various mini-soccer and 11-a-side leagues in and around the borough.

Everyone at Oldham Athletic hope you enjoy your day.
