Oasis Academy U13 girls represent Oldham Athletic

The Oasis Academy Oldham U13 girls football squad this week represented Oldham Athletic in a tournament held at Barnsley FC’s Oakwell Stadium.

The prestigious npower Girls Cup Area Finals saw the girls compete for the chance to play in the regional finals against teams from across the North of England after winning the Oldham schools tournament..

In the area group stages the Oldham girls played, Bury, Middlesbrough, Rochdale and Scunthorpe United. Despite digging deep and putting in some great performances the girls were knocked out at the group stage, finishing third in their group.

Oasis Academy Oldham PE teacher and sport co-ordinator Sarah Walters said the girls had displayed determination and commitment.

“This was a very tough competition involving some very talented female U13 footballers from the North of England,” she said. “Although they didn’t win, the girls performed brilliantly. The girls showed fantastic fighting spirit and enjoyed playing at a professional football ground and made the most of the day.”

Martin Vose, Community Trust Participation Manager also congratulated the girls on reaching the regional finals:

“The U13 girls can be very proud of themselves for reaching the regional finals, representing both their school and Oldham Athletic, their behaviour and on the field performances were of the highest quality". Well done girls!

The national final of the girls cup will take place at Wembley Stadium in April 2014.
