Burnley win spot kick shoot out in Senior Cup
Latics reserves were knocked out of the Lancashire FA Senior Cup by Burnley at Turf Moor last night after a penalty shoot out. The game finishing 1-1 at the end of normal time.
Latics, featuring a mixture of trialists, youth team and first teamers, were equal to their Championship rivals in a first half of few chances. The home side's Ross Wallace, playing his first 90 minutes since knee surgery at the start of the season, coming closest with an effort that keeper Joel Coleman palmed away.

Latics took the lead two minutes after the break, Kirk Millar sending Daniel Nizic the wrong way from the spot, after Anton Rodgers had been fouled in the box.
Wallace fired in a low drive just before the hour mark, Coleman making a decent save to his right to keep his side in front. Burnley missing another chance five minutes later as Cameron Howeison fired wide.
Latics almost doubled their lead when Millar's shot from outside the box beat Nizic but smacked the bar and bounced to safety.
Wallace fired another effort wide before finally getting the goal his display deserved on 83 minutes, racing on to a neat through ball to slot under Coleman. The winger then had a chance to finish the tie as Burnley were awarded a 90th minute penalty, his spot kick striking the bar.
With the scores level at the final whistle, the game went to a penalty shoot out, Wallace making no mistake with his next spot kick to put his side in front. Rodgers levelled for Latics but unfortunately his was the only success as the hosts scored with each of their kicks to claim their place in the semi-final.
