Latics help to smash wacky world record
A total of 369 participants packed into Mahdlo youth zone’s sports hall on Egerton Street yesterday to help smash the world record for the most people doing simultaneous sit-ups.
Mahdlo patrons and local schools, Heys Primary, St Anne’s Royton, Alexandra Park, Holy Cross, Stoneleigh, St Joseph’s and Fir Bank were joined by Latics recent signing Adam Lockwood, Commercial Manager Jenny Warburton, Sales and Marketing Executive David Broadbent, Team Analyst Billy Quarmby and even Chaddy the Owl to help in the world record attempt.
Oldham Mayor, Councillor John Hudson, and Chief Supt Catherine Hankinson, were also on hand to count each participant as they took up position on the floor.
Everyone involved had to complete full sit-ups continuously for a minute to beat the record and claim a spot in the history books.
Latics Commercial Manager, Jenny Warburton took part in the record attempt and believes it was a great success. "Mahdlo has already proved to be a wonderful asset to the town. The work and commitment to supporting projects to help and encourage young people in Oldham is invaluable. This has been a fantastic event, not only has it increased exposure for the youth zone but it has enabled local schools to come together and be part of a new world record. We are very grateful to Madhlo and The Safeguard Group for inviting us to get involved".
The attempt, which will be officially verified at a later date, was also an inventive way to mark a new partnership with leading education provider Commando Joes, which will be visiting schools around Oldham and promoting the youth zone.
