Mellor's School Visit

13 January 2014

Last week David Mellor spent the afternoon with pupils at Rushcroft Primary School

The Latics player visited the school and took the time to answer questions and sign autographs for the children.

The visit was part of Oldham Athletic Community Trust schools programme, with Rushcroft Primary one of the Community Trusts schools partners this year.

The visit was for those children who take part in the after-school football club, those children got to meet David and ask him all about the recent visit to Anfield and what it was like to play against Steven Gerrard and co. David also spoke about how hard you have to work to become a professional footballer and how much dedication it requires.

Wendy Noble, Community Trust administration manager commented: “These visits are vital to a club and community scheme like ourselves. It`s fantastic for the children to meet professional footballers, it really makes them feel close to the club.”

Brian Coyle, Rushcroft Primary deputy head added:” Everyone at Rushcroft Primary School was delighted to get the chance to meet Latics player David Mellor. The visit was part of a new initiative between Rushcroft and Latics which has seen children from Year 1 to Year 4 getting expert coaching from Oldham coaches every week. It has definitely helped raise the profile of OAFC around school.”

The community trust are out delivering a range of sports every day of the week, working within many of Oldham’s primary schools. Our community coaches currently deliver football, futsal, street cheer and handball to thousands of school children per year.
