Holland Trip Delayed

28 July 2014

The Oldham Athletic youth team should have been jetting off to Holland today to play a host of European friendlies however due to adverse weather, their trip has been delayed by a day.

Tony Philliskirk, his staff and players were set to fly out to Holland today but weather conditions in the country have meant their flight from Manchester had to be cancelled.

The team will now fly tomorrow, disrupting their busy schedule but it is a situation out of Philliskirk's control.

The manager is understandly gutted not to be heading out today but is remaining upbeat despite a stressful couple of hours.

He said: "We've had to split the players on two flights tomorrow so it's not the start we wanted. Sheffield United and Bradford were also in the same position as they are doing the same trip as us.

"There is nothing we can do. The weather is so bad that they have apparently shut down the airport.

"We are due to play Genk on Wednesday but I'm not sure we will be able to play that anymore. Our whole itinery has been thrown into dismay so we may have to play Genk in the evening with little rest."

The squad will arrive in Holland on Tuesday and stay until August 10 as they take on VVV Venlo and Brabant.
