IN PROFILE: Middlesbrough

17 June 2014

Latics have been drawn against Middlesbrough in the first round of the Capital One Cup so we have taken a closer look at our counterparts.

Middlesbrough will come into the game full of confidence after ending the Championship season with six victories from their final eight games.

After announcing former Real Madrid assistant manager Aitor Karanka as their new manager in November last season, the Spaniard has won 13 of his 31 games in charge of the club.

Albert Adomah finished Boro's top goalscorer last season with 12 goals whilst the side kept 17 clean sheets.

Last season, Boro suffered a shock home defeat to League Two side Accrington Stanley, losing the game 2-1.

The two sides met in a friendly in 2009 with the game ending a 2-2 draw but the last competitive fixture between the sides ended in victory for Latics.
