Rachubka: "I Enjoy It Here"

4 June 2014

Latics goalkeeper Paul Rachubka was delighted to sign a one-year contract extension with the club yesterday.

The 33-year-old, who starred for Latics during their unbeaten ten games run last season, believes the club can kick on from the impressive end to the season.

He said: "I'm happy that my contract has been continued here because I enjoy it. I enjoyed it the first time and this time is going really well. In the last ten games we went unbeaten so what more can you ask for.

"One of the reasons why I signed was to get the consistency and foundation in place to make us kick on next season now.

"It was such a positive thing to get the run going until the end of the season and the lads want to continue that now.

"I think one of the reasons why we did so well in the last ten games was that the whole team didn't really change. We worked out how to play together and produced results."

With the new stand set to be complete before the start of the 2014/15 campaign, the goalkeeper is looking forward to seeing it complete.

"It took a while to get out the ground but it is fantastic to see it go up," said Rachubka. "Hopefully it won't be long until the seats go in and everything will be ready for the start of the season."

As pre-season is only a couple of weeks away, the former Blackpool and Leeds goalkeeper outlined his plans for the new season.

"It's a club that will be at the top end of the table. I don't say things for the sake of it but I do honestly believe that. That's where we will be and I think we can achieve that with ease," added Rachubka.

"When the season starts, I'll be ready. It's great fun now when I'm off but it will be great when I get back and see the lads and the new faces."
