This afternoon, Oldham Athletic would like to welcome Manchester Corinthians U8s to Boundary Park, who are our JD Williams Team Of The Week for this afternoon's fixture against Brentford.
Here is a little more information about the team:
Manchester Corinthians are a junior football club, based in the south of Greater Manchester. They are renowned for their commitment to technically strong football and player development, with their coaching philosophy being modelled on the approach at Barcelona. They have teams at Under 14s, Under 10s and Under 8s. The Under 8s team have had a good season in the East Manchester JFL, where they compete in the Premier League, against some of the strongest junior teams in the North West. They have also reached the final of the Under 8s Cup, and are looking forward to playing in front of a big crowd at the Curzon Ashton stadium on 4th May 2014.
Manager Stuart Walkinshaw said: "Although we are based in South Manchester, the Corinthians have a lot of Oldham connections and we are very proud that the Under 8s are team of the week. We aspire to play the same kind of passing, technically sophisticated football that Lee Johnson is working hard to bring to the Latics".
The boys have been looking forward to the game for some time. Goalkeeper Sonny Francis, who is a fan of Latics keeper Paul Rachubka, said: "I hope he has a blinder today and keeps a clean sheet."
Midfield playmaker Luke Partington said: "We know this is a really important game for Oldham Athletic, and we hope we bring them luck."
Anyone interested in joining Corinthians should contact the club on 07888 693240. Open player development sessions are held on Thursday evenings.
