Korey Smith Previews Crewe

14 March 2014

Captain Korey Smith believes confidence is the key to putting a sequence of results together to push Latics higher up the table.

The midfielder, who has now fully recovered from his injury last month, wants to stay positive in order to fire Latics further up the League One ladder.

He said: "Sometimes when you're at the bottom, things just don't fall for you. If we were top of the league, a couple of those chances on Tuesday night would have gone in. Sometimes you don't get the rub of the green when you're at the bottom but hopefully we'll keep a positive mind-frame and turn that around soon."

Previewing the game with Crewe Alexandra, Smith believes it will be a tough encounter but is confident of getting all three points from Gresty Road.

"It's a very important game like all the others. If we go there positive, we should get the result," commented the captain. "It's hard when you're near the bottom of the league because you start to miss chances you expect to score but we've got to stick together now and hopefully we'll get the right result on Saturday."

With three points massive on Saturday, the 24-year-old has called for supporters to stick with the side as they look to steer clear of the relegation places.

"We all want success at the football club," stated Smith. "The fans are frustrated and we are too but you can't win every game in football. It's not through lack of effort but it's really helps when supporters are on side because they give us a massive lift."
