Latics Reserves 1-1 Port Vale Reserves

6 March 2014

John Pritchard equalised ten minutes before half time to secure a draw for a young Latics side.

The game started very evenly with both teams starting with attacking intent.

With possession evenly matched, the home side managed to make the breakthrough on 20 minutes. With danger looked to have been cleared, the ball came back into the box and a Vale striker headed home at the front post to put the Valiants ahead.

Latics responded well and found a way back into the game through Pritchard. Terry Dunfield and JP Kissock did well from a corner and the midfielder turned well in the area and fired it past the goalkeeper to equalise for Oldham Athletic.

Going into the second half, both sides had chances to win the game. Youth team striker Jordan Bove was causing the Port Vale defence a lot of problems but unfortunately he couldn't find a way past the resilient goalkeeper.

With time running out, Port Vale and Latics both went in search of a winner, but neither got the deciding goal and it finished a draw.

Speaking about the game, first team coach Paul Murray was pleased with his side's performance. He said: "It was nice to see some first years coming through and the three pros played well with the youngsters.

It was a good point in the end. I felt we controlled the game in spells and maybe should have come away with all three points. It was good for the youngsters to get experience and for the senior players to get some game time as they look to get a place in the first team."
