Ten Memorable Moments

30 May 2014

In this feature, we look back at ten of the most memorable moments of the season. Here is the eighth in a timeline of events.

Whilst the first team battled to keep their League One safety, there was cup success for the Oldham Athletic youth team.

After Tony Philliskirk’s men were just pipped to the league by Blackpool, the youngsters had the chance to extract revenge as they faced the Seasiders at Bloomfield Road.

Latics faced an uphill battle as they were reduced to ten men and conceded with only 15 minutes of the game remaining. But, in the dying embers of the game, Dan Byrnes’ superb volley into the top corner rescued the game and sent it to penalties.

Joel Coleman saved two spot kicks and Ryan Ellison, who had been missing for long periods of the season with injury, smashed the winning penalty to send the youngsters into a state of ecstasy.

Relive all the action as Latics lifted the Lancashire FA Professional Youth Cup.
