Latics' reserve team were beaten 4-2 by an organised Morecambe side.
Dominic Poleon had given Athletic the lead in the opening minutes of the game but they were pegged back instantly after Morecambe equalised.In a crazy opening 15 minutes, the Shrimps took the lead but Latics found an instant reply as Rhys Turner found the head of the onrushing trialist to power home from six yards out.
The visitors regained the lead on the half hour mark and scored two minutes after the half time break to win the game 4-2.
