First Brick Laid In New North Stand

22 October 2014

The first brick was laid in the new North Stand today (Wednesday, October 22) by Optima Cars owner, Martin Thomas.

Thomas' company Optima Cars sponsor the Man of the Match award and he won the chance to lay the first brick after winning the auction at the End of Season dinner.

Thomas, who is a lifelong Latics fan, said: "As a supporter of the football club I want to give as much back as I can. The new stand looks very impressive from the outside and will be inside when it is all finished.

"It's taken a while for it to go up but when it's completed, I'm sure it will all be worth it. I'm glad I had the chance to lay the first brick, although it did cost me more than I expected!"

Chairman, Simon Corney, added: "The new stand is going to be finished by the start of next season. There is no doubt whatsoever about that. There is nothing to be worried about.

"We did have a problem with a supplier which set us back four or five weeks but we have overcome that now. People will start to get excited again soon."

You can follow all the progress on the club's official media channels.
