Gaffer Delighted With Comeback

12 October 2014

Oldham Athletic boss Lee Johnson hailed his players after they came from behind to beat Walsall on Saturday.

Jordan Cook had given the Saddlers an early lead but goals from the now-departed Conor Wilkinson and Mike Jones sealed Latics the win.

Speaking about the performance, Johnson said: "I thought for 70 minutes we were brilliant. The way we moved the ball around was good and I thought Mike Jones was superb and rightly got the man of the match. He tired a little bit towards the end but he has excellent throughout.

"We have been hit with a bug going around the place but we showed good character to get the win and come from behind. Walsall are a good side and tough to break down so when they got their noses in the lead I was a little bit worried but we stayed patient and we got the two goals."

Wilkinson marked the end of his loan spell with a goal. "His spell deserved the goal," commented the gaffer. "He has been fantastic and I've been pleased with him and hopefully we will be able to get him back sometime."

Latics are now perched in eighth position in Sky Bet League One and the 33-year-old just wants to take it game-by-game.

"We've got to continue our good form. Our bench looked strong with big Jabo coming off the bench and offering a different option so we have threats all over the field," said Johnson.

"We've got to keep our feet on the ground and move forward. We have a good team spirit at the moment and that is important because you can't coach that so it is a positive."
