Convincing Win For Youth Team

22 September 2014

The Oldham Athletic youth team comfortably beat Morecambe youth team 6-0 on Saturday.

Jordache Walters grabbed a double to inspire the youngsters to victory with Ryan Ellison, Devante Jacobs, Jack Tuohy and Rio Murray scoring the others.

Ellison also missed two spots kicks for Latics and manager Tony Philliskirk believed his side should have possibly won by more but could not praise his team more highly.

He said: "It was a good strong performance from our boys. The pitch was small and uneven but we adapted well and played good football. We started the game really well and if I'm being really critical, we should have really been out of sight in the first half.

"We are scoring goals left, right and centre. We are not relying on one or two people to score and everyone is pitching in with goals. They have a strong determination at the moment and everyone is chomping at the bit to play."

Saturday's result now means Philliskirk's men have not conceded a goal in over 360 minutes of football and it is a stat the manager is delighted with.

"We defended excellently and that is now the fourth consecutive clean sheet so we are mirroring the first team," the boss stated.

"We have been working with the defence a lot as we conceded a lot of goals in pre-season. We are playing well now and keeping the clean sheets so it's all coming together nicely."
