Summer signing George Elokobi has settled in well since joining Oldham Athletic and believes he is only getting better and better as the season goes on.
Having only appeared in one pre-season fixture from the bench against Huddersfield Town, the defender was thrust into the action straight away and feels he is now close to full fitness. He said: "I haven't played many games in pre-season and I came into the club just before the start of the season so that was my first game. It was going to take me two or three games to get going but I'm feeling good with my fitness, physical side and I'm enjoying my football as well.
"I am enjoying it here 110%. Football is all about getting the opportunity to play, playing and working hard on the training ground. I'm happy to be part of the 11 that starts and even if I'm on the bench, I'm happy to be part of the team."
Elokobi, who joined the club after six years with Wolverhampton Wanderers, felt Saturday's victory over Fleetwood Town was a good team performance but is already looking to the next game.
"It was a great performance from us. We knew this was going to be a tough game because the table doesn't lie and you have to respect them. All credit to us as a club for sticking together after a slow start to the season. Everyone is in this together and working so hard to pick up points so it's been a good week for us," commented the defender.
"We've got to keep our feet on the ground and do the basics right. We need to listen to the management team and learn from our mistakes going into the Gillingham game. The season isn't won in August or September and we just need to go into every game thinking we are going to win."
The 28-year-old required six stitches in his head in last week's 2-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers and Elokobi revealed the reasons why he is still wearing the bandage around his head.
"I need to protect the stitches from last week. When you are coming up against good strikers, they are going to try and win their fair share of headers. This is to protect myself and I don't want to cut to re-open so it helps," said Elokobi.
