Johnson Wary Of Swindon Threat

15 September 2014

Manager Lee Johnson is expecting a tough encounter when Oldham Athletic travel to Wiltshire to face Swindon Town tomorrow night, but is looking to continue their recent good form.

Latics recorded their fourth consecutive clean sheet in all competitions on Saturday with a 0-0 draw with Gillingham.

On reflection, the manager felt that his side did enough to win that game but is under no illusions that Swindon will pose a different threat.

He said: "They are a good side and I like them a lot. They have a very good midfield and they play a 3-5-2 formation and mix it up. It will be a tough game and I think the manager has done a really good job there under difficult circumstances.

"We've had a decent record against them recently but that doesn't mean anything really because it's what happens on the day what is important. They have two good strikers, one who they have just brought in and one that might be on the way out, and they have threats all over the pitch.

"Having said that, we also have threats all over the pitch and I've been pleased with the way my side has been playing recently."

Top scorer Jonathan Forte was missing at the weekend with a recurrance of an injury but the manager hinted that the forward could play a part in tomorrow's game.

"We will give him a fitness test to see how he is but we currently rate him at 50/50," the gaffer commented.

"I want to keep this momentum going and we are in a good place squad wise. Hopefully Locky will be back reasonably soon and Forte will be back.

"As a manager, you want everyone fit and you've got the problem of picking the team. It's a tough league but I think they are all winnable."

Latics strengthened their squad before the weekend with the loan signing of Bolton forward, Conor Wilkinson and the 33-year-old revealed he has a few more targets in mind.

"To be fair to the chairman, he's given me the majority of the Clarke-Harris money to go and strengthen which is good. We are in the market to do that but we don't want to rush it.

"There are a couple of good players about who we are in the market for. We haven't got fortunes but we are going to use it to enhance our squad."
