Amari Morgan-Smith's late goal rescued a point for Latics as they drew 2-2 with Swindon Town.
James Dayton's goal of the season contender was cancelled out almost immediately through the lively Jonathan Obika.The Robins took the lead ten minutes from time through Andy Williams but Morgan-Smith popped up in the box five minutes from time to earn Latics a point.
It was an even start to the game with both sides having good chances in the opening exchanges.
Dominic Poleon and Carl Winchester were unfortunate to see shots go wide in the opening five minutes but Latics' defence were tested minutes after when Michael Smith saw a volley slide just past Paul Rachubka's goal.
The home side had a good opportunity to open the scoring on ten minutes but Yaser Kasim's free kick from 25 yards harmlessly went over the bar.
With both sides enjoying spells of good possession, it was Latics that took the lead through an exceptional strike from Dayton.
Joseph Mills played a short free kick to the winger who thundered a shot from 35-yards giving Wes Foderingham no chance in the Swindon goal.
The goal was Dayton's first of the season and receieved a round of applause from the home supporters.
That lead however did not last long as Obika levelled the game. The striker pounced on a loose ball inside the area as Latics struggled to clear a corner into the box.
The goal kicked the Robins into life and they enjoyed the majority of possession with Massimo Luongo causing a constant threat throughout the night.
Latics, however, stood firm and looked promising on the counter attack. Winchester received the ball inside the area on 45 minutes and fired a low cross which caused the home side problems but the danger was eventually cleared.
Latics started the second half brightly with manager Lee Johnson's words still ringing in their ears.
Central midfielders Liam Kelly and Mike Jones received bookings for the visitors within the first ten minutes of the half by referee Graham Horwood.
The pressure was all with Latics and Poleon almost opened his scoring account for Latics on the hour mark. The striker used his pace and power to jink past a player and his shot was well saved by Wes Foderingham.
The referee was making himself unpopular with the visiting supporters as he booked Philliskirk for an inocuous foul.
All of the ball was with the visitors with Swindon Town struggling to get any sort of possession.
With only ten minutes remaining, the Robins, against the run of play, managed to find a goal.
Williams found space on the edge of the area after being threaded through on goal and the substitute confidently struck past Rachubka to give Swindon the lead.
That lead only lasted four minutes as Latics found an equaliser. After a scramble inside the Swindon box, Morgan-Smith poked home a leveller to send the 228 travelling supporters into a state of ecstacy.
And the visitors could have won it late on after substitute Conor Wilkinson raced through on goal but the striker's effort was well handled by the Swindon Town stopper.
With both sides going for it in the final minutes of the game, neither side could find the winning goal and Latics came away from the County Ground with a point.
