Poleon Excited To Get Started

5 September 2014

Deadline day signing Dominic Poleon admitted his delight at joining Oldham Athletic, citing regular first team football as the reason behind his move.

The 20-year-old signed late on Monday night for an undisclosed fee after joining from Leeds United.

Speaking about his transfer to SportsDirect.com Park, the striker explained how the move came about.

He said: "My agent told me the manager was interested in me earlier in the season but I was still contracted to Leeds so I couldn't really talk about it.

"I got a call from my agent on deadline day telling me Leeds had accepted a bid for me and I'm here now. I'm delighted to be here but it happened very late on.

"I couldn't be more happier to move here. The manager has showed faith in me and that's what I needed really so I'm delighted to be here. Hopefully I can repay him on the pitch."

Poleon was overlooked slightly at Leeds United, only starting three games for the Yorkshire side before moving on loan to Bury and Sheffield United but the striker has made his intentions clear with Latics.

"I just want to play. I'll even play in defence if I have to because as long as I'm on the pitch and playing, I'm happy. My main aim, though, is to score goals and get the team the win," added Poleon.

"Nobody likes to sit on the bench and that's what I did at Leeds so hopefully I'm here to start a new chapter and hopefully get firing.

Asked if the striker had set a goal target for the season, Poleon replied: "I've always got a figure in my head of what I want to get for the season but I set my own targets meaning I am happy to assist goals and hopefully grab a few.

"I always give 100% either from the bench or if I start the game so I'd like to be involved against Fleetwood."
