Roger East will be the man in charge of the local derby clash with Bury FC on Saturday.
East has officiated his first game of the season last week as he sent one off and gave four bookings in Portsmouth’s 3-3 draw with Morecambe.
East refereed regularly in the Premier League last season, but the last time he officiated Latics was in 2012 when Jack Lester’s only goal denied the club a trip to Wembley in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
Andrew Fox and Peter Wright will assist the referee whilst Michael Denton will be Saturday’s fourth official.
