Johnson Eyeing Fifth Position

3 February 2015

Gaffer Lee Johnson is eyeing the Sky Bet League One play-off places as he takes his side to Oakwell tonight to face Barnsley.

The 33-year-old takes his side to South Yorkshire to face the Tykes who occupy 17th position in the table.

Speaking ahead of the game, Johnson said: "It's a big game and they all are now. They have a good stadium with underground heating which I hope they've turned on because we want a good playing surface.

"We have been on a little bit of a decent run of form and individual players are playing well. In the last five games we have won two, drawn two, lost one so we want to make sure we get wins and we will be going there to win the game."

Johnson's men could move to fifth in the division with victory but a defeat could put Barnsley two points behind Latics. "It shows how tight the division is," the gaffer commented.

"It is no fluke that the big hitters are up there in the league. Sheffield United have just spent over a million pounds on a right back so it's quite impressive by League One standards.

"There are a lot of people spending money. Scunthorpe have brought in the Dutch striker who is a good player so they are having a go.

"We are doing well because we are in the position we are after a good win and we will continue to battle with teams like Rochdale and teams in that group of eight to ten teams to compete to get into the play-off places."
