In this feature, we take an in-depth look at the 23 other teams in Sky Bet League One this season.
League position last season:
18th - Sky Bet League One
2014/15 top goalscorer:
Tom Pope (10)
Robert Page - The 40-year-old was appointed caretaker manager of Port Vale after Micky Adams' sacking and was offered a permanent position in October 2014.
In his caretaker spell in charge, Page took Vale up seven places in the division and that earned him a permanent contract with the club.
A former Wales international, Page has managed 40 games, winning 14, drawing seven and losing 19.
His Vale side finished 18th in the league last season but have lost Tom Pope this summer as the striker opted for a move to Bury FC.
Page was a no-nonsense central defender, plying his trade with Watford, Sheffield United and Chesterfield in an 18 year career.
The bookmakers have priced Port Vale third favourites for relegation next season.
Remie Streete - The 20-year-old joined Port Vale after being released by Newcastle this summer.
He enjoyed a previous loan spell with the club in 2014 which swayed his decision to join Page's side.
The young defender was sent to Rangers on loan at the end of last season but injury in his first game prevented him from further appearances.
After leaving St James' Park this summer, Streete will now look to kick on and gain vital first team football to progress further.
The history books show that Latics have faced Port Vale 73 times in all competitions, winning 28 and losing 31.
The points were shared in the clash at SportsDirect.com Park whilst Mike Jones' long-range free-kick won Dean Holden his first game in charge of Latics in March.
