Decision Time For Youth Team Players

20 March 2015

Second year scholars Jack Tuohy and Danny Byrnes were today told they would be offered professional contracts with the club when their apprenticeship finishes at the end of the season.

Fellow apprentices George Edmondson, Callum Etches, Eddie Fulwood, Emil Tansinda, Jordache Walters and non-contract player Ben Grant were unfortunately told that they would not be offered terms.

Ryan Ellison, who has been injured for the majority of the season, has turned down the offer to have his apprenticeship suspended and extended into next season and will also leave the club.

A decision on Devante Jacobs and goalkeeper Paul Tyson will be made next week.

Speaking about decisions, Tony Philliskirk said: "It is obviously a very tough day for everyone in the youth department at this time of year when decisions are being made on the futures of lads who have worked so hard to try and achieve their goal of earning a professional contract.

"Unfortunately not everyone will be successful in achieving their aim but I would like to place on record that all the second year group have been a pleasure to work with over the last two seasons.

"We would like to congratulate Danny and Jack. However, they understand they only have their feet on the first rung of the professional football ladder and they have a lot of hard work in the coming weeks and months to try and establish themselves as first team squad players going into next season and beyond."
