Sadler: "I'm Very Excited About Playing In Front Of A Passionate Crowd."

24 March 2015

Loanee Mat Sadler has settled well into life at Oldham Athletic and is relishing the prospect of facing rivals Rochdale tonight.

The 30-year-old has made the left back position his own due to the injury to regular Joseph Mills and he is looking forward to tonight's clash with Rochdale.

He said: "I'm very excited about playing in front of a good, passionate crowd and one that will follow us thought the game. Hopefully the fans will turn up in their numbers and will be in a positive frame of mind and will us to victory.

"These are the games you want to play in. We have to show that pride that we did on Saturday and we've not had the best two results at home recently so we want to put that right and I'm very excited."

Sadler has played every minute since joining the club two weeks ago. "It has been a good week for me playing three 90 minutes one after another.

"I'm really looking forward to the same sort of week this week. You can train as much as you like but it doesn't fully prepare you for the competitive environment.

"I enjoyed it a lot more this weekend, that's for sure. It was a tough first two games against two tough teams. It was two games we wanted to do well in but fell short on both occasions.

"It was vital on Saturday that we didn't lose the football match. We caused them problems all day and we scored the goal. We needed to that win on Saturday and we needed to be solid."

The full back highlighted the impact of new loan signing Anthony Gerrard and the returning Adam Lockwood on the team.

"Gerrard came in and Locky was back from suspension so we needed that wiley League One experience and characters. It was a very good away performance and good to get the three points.

"Anthony showed why he has played at a high level and I think he'll be the first to say when he is fitter and stronger, he will be better and have more to offer.

"There is plenty more to come from him as he will probably tell you himself and I thought he was fantastic on Saturday. Him and Locky steadied the ship and they were the managers out on the pitch.
