Oldham Athletic youth team fell to a 2-0 home defeat to Blackpool in the Youth Alliance league earlier today.
Two first half goals for the visitors were enough to seal all three points at Chapel Road.Latics started brightly and could have taken the lead on four minutes but full back Callum Scullion's header was saved well by the Seasiders goalkeeper.
Blackpool took the lead slightly against the run of play 17 minutes into the game.
Athletic failed to deal with a free kick into the box and Blackpool defender Alieu Njie scooped low to head his side in front.
One became two five minutes later as midfielder Luke Higham doubled their advantage.
The youngster picked up the ball on the edge of the box and fired confidently past Latics goalkeeper Paul Tyson to put Blackpool in the ascendancy.
Manager Tony Philliskirk changed things at the half time break as Emil Tansinda joined the action and Latics threatened in the second half.
Substitute Jordache Walters latched onto a through ball but his lob over the goalkeeper fell the wrong side of the post.
Latics were in the ascendancy and peppered the Blackpool goal but they struggled to find a way past the Blackpool goalkeeper.
Midfielder Jack Tuohy had two efforts to reduce the arrears but his first was well saved and his second sailed over the crossbar.
With minutes of the game remaining, Tansinda was presented with a chance to pull one back but smashed over the bar from eight yards out.
The game, however, ended abruptly after Danny Byrnes fell awkwardly after going shoulder-to-shoulder with a Blackpool player.
The referee blew time on the game with Byrnes still on the floor and Latics came away from the game pointless.
