Yesterday, Darren Kelly announced his retained list after the conclusion of the 2014/15 season and today he explains the decisions he made.
Midfielder James Dayton leaves the club after making 63 appearances and scoring five goals whilst Amari Morgan-Smith departs after 15 appearances and two goals.
Speaking about the decision to release the pair, Kelly said: "I've seen a lot of the players play this season, but I haven't seen these two this season.
"I couldn't justify taking money out of my budget to put on players that haven't trained or played or have been injured. I couldn't justify paying out money for that."
Jonathan Forte and James Wilson had their guaranteed options taken up by the football club and Kelly added: "I've seen both players and I have been impressed with them.
"They are both very good footballers and I'm looking forward to working with them next season. I think there is more to offer from them and with my coaching, it will come to fruition."
Three players, Jordan Bove, Rhys Turner and Jack Truelove, had their options of a further year taken by the football club. "They are highly thought of young lads and they have a chance of progression," Kelly said.
"Hopefully they will put the hard work in in pre-season and ultimately it is up to them to stake a claim for a position in the first team."
Connor Brown, Adam Lockwood and George Elokobi are currently considering new contracts. "I hope they sign because they are valuable players on and off the pitch," he said.
"We just need word back from their agents but I hope they stay. There are things they need to think about but we'll see what happens with that."
