SIGNING: Ritchie Wellens Returns On Loan

26 November 2015

Midfielder Richie Wellens has returned to SportsDirect.com Park on an emergency loan deal until January 2, 2016.

The 35-year-old re-joins from Doncaster Rovers after leaving Latics in 2007.

During his first spell with the club, Wellens made 101 appearances and scored eight goals in a two-year spell as John Sheridan guided the club to the play-offs.

Manager David Dunn said: “I’ve known Ritchie for a number of years and the quality he will bring to us will be invaluable.

“First of all he is a leader, he’s got a great character and will be a lift to the team and the supporters so I look forward to working with him.”

Wellens is cup-tied so will be unavailable to face Sheffield United in the second round of the FA Cup next week.

Also, the midfielder will not be allowed to play against Doncaster Rovers in the league on Monday, December 28.

Wellens will wear the number 35 shirt during his time with the club.
