Vassell Keen To Repay Manager’s Faith In Him

3 November 2015

Young central defender Theo Vassell knows he will have to bide his time in order to prove to the manager he is worthy of a starting spot.

The 18-year-old, who signed last week, had been on trial with the club last month and he impressed enough to earn a professional contract.

After coming highly recommended by Stoke City assistant manager Mark Bowen, he was delighted to sign and can’t wait to get started.

He said: “I was at Stoke for 11 years from the age of eight and I came through the academy. I did enjoy it there and I’m from Stoke so it was local to me.

“I’ve got to work hard now and show the manager [David Dunn] what I can do on the training ground and hopefully my time will come here.”

Vassell made his debut last week in the Lancashire Senior Cup game against Fleetwood Town.

“Even though we drew the game, we won on penalties and I thought I did really well,” he admitted.

“It was good to mix with the team in my first game and I thought I communicated with everyone and got along well.”
