Winchester Reacts To FA Cup First Round Draw

27 October 2015

Midfielder Carl Winchester admitted his teammates will not underestimate Sky Bet League Two side Mansfield Town after being drawn together in the FA Cup first round draw.

The 22-year-old, who has been an impressive figure since his re-introduction into the side, believes it will be a tough encounter but one he is confident of progressing from.

He said: “We will be under no illusions to the task Mansfield Town will pose but we know if we can play to the best of our ability we can come out on top.

“Mansfield are doing well in their division so they will be confident but it will be up to us to take the game to them and hopefully we can get the win to progress into the next round.”

Latics last faced the Stags in the second round stage of the same competition during the 2013/14 season.

“I remember the game well,” admitted Winchester. “I came on as a substitute for James Wesolowski in the early parts of the game after he broke his cheekbone.

“I remember Danny Philliskirk’s screamer and Jonson Clarke-Harris scored a good goal as well so hopefully it will be a similar outcome this time.”

Full ticket details regarding the tie will be released in due course.
