Tony Philliskirk’s youth team were 7-2 victors in a behind-closed-doors friendly with FC United of Manchester this afternoon.
Devante Jacobs and Brendy Glackin grabbed a double each whilst Alex Read, James Sloane and Lee Knight rounded off the scoring in a comfortable victory. The young Latics fell behind five minutes into the game before Jacobs’ double put Latics into a 2-1 lead at half time.
Five minutes after the half time interval, Read extended their lead before Glackin bagged his first of the afternoon on the hour mark.
FC United pulled a goal back soon to make it 4-2 but goals from Sloane, Knight and Glackin’s second of the afternoon sealed the win.
Speaking about the win, Philliskirk said: “A lot of the lads who haven’t played as much as the others managed to get their minutes up and they had a good game.
“We are very friendly with FC United of Manchester so it was a beneficial game for both of us as we didn’t have a game this weekend and they have their FA Youth Cup campaign soon so it was good preparation.
“No disrespect but we should be beating them but it was a good game. First half was a close game but then the fitness started to take its toll at the end of the game and we scored a few goals.
“It was a really good exercise for both sides so we thank FC United for the game and wish them luck in the first round of the Youth Cup.”
