French defender Timothee Dieng has put his recent good form down to his partnership with Anthony Gerrard.
The central defender has been an impressive figure at the heart of the Athletic defence, helping to keep six clean sheets since the signing of Gerrard.
He said: "He is experienced player and talks a lot. As a young player that is perfect for me as he speaks a lot to me and I improve my game next to him.
"I think I have improved a lot physically because the rhythm in England is higher compared to France. I have more confidence and I think I have improved a lot this season.
Latics have had to wait eight days for their next game due to Barnsley’s involvement in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final.
That has allowed Dieng the chance to prepare fully ahead of tonight’s game against Swindon Town.
“We had two days off so personally I rested,” he admitted. “We have big weeks coming soon so I rested and I am now ready for the last eight games of the season.”
Asked about his contract situation, the 23-year-old responded: “My contract finishes in June but the club has an option on next year and I would be happy to stay.
“I like being here and I’m enjoying myself so we’ll see what happens."
