Striker Curtis Main admitted his relief to get on the scoresheet for the first time and secure an important win over Swindon Town.
His header in the 82nd minute of the game sealed a valuable three points for John Sheridan’s men and he was delighted to get off the mark for Latics.
He said: "It’s been a long time coming. I’ve been here a while now and although I feel I’ve played pretty well and the team has been doing well, on a personal level it’s always nice getting on the scoresheet. I’m pleased I did that tonight.
"It was a really important win tonight. It was one of our games in hand and it was important we could pick up three points so it’s a good night.”
Although Latics have picked up seven points from a possible nine available, they still find themselves in the bottom four.
However, if performances and conditions continue, Main has no doubt Latics will get out of the relegation zones.
“We are still in the bottom four after picking up another win so it just shows the work that still needs to be done,” he commented.
"We have been playing well recently but nothing is done yet. We need to keep on doing what we’ve been doing and things should be okay.”
Main reserved special praise for the supporters who have got right behind the forward since his move.
“It’s good to know you can hear the fans get behind you and they’ve been good since I’ve been in so I can’t complain on that front,” he admitted.
