SportsDirect.com Park To Host Charity Game Featuring Latics Legends & Celebrity Stars

5 April 2016

Supporters attending the charity football game in aid of Prostate Cancer UK and Once Upon A Smile can gain access to SportsDirect.com Park for just £1 in the #InForAQuid initiative.

Oldham Athletic will host a charity football game on Thursday, May 12 between a Latics XI and Once Upon A Smile celebrities.

The Once Upon A Smile Celebrity XI includes a host of famous actors from shows such as Emmerdale, The Royle Family & X-Factor, along with a number of ex-professionals and other celebrities including captain and ex Latics club captain Will Haining.

The team, who play regularly in order to raise money for the children’s charity to provide emotional and practical support to bereaved families at their time of need, will face an Oldham team that will include Dean Windass, Paul Murray, Denis Irwin, Latics’ chairman Simon Corney, Dean Holden & Andy Ritchie with more names set to be released soon.

And it is now only £1 to attend the game for adults, concessions and children with all money raised going to reputable charities.

In the UK, about one in eight men will get prostate cancer at some point in their lives. Men aged 50 or over, men with a family history of prostate cancer and Black men are more at risk of getting prostate cancer.

Once Upon A Smile are a charity which help and support to families that have suffered the loss of a loved one, and gives after care for the families.

Daniel Jillings, Once Upon A Smile Co-Founder, said: ‘'The previous year’s games proved a huge success and we were delighted with the response to support such a worthwhile cause.

"This year will see the game staged bigger and better and we are delighted that it will also benefit Prostate Cancer UK. It’s going to be a great day and we're extremely grateful to Oldham Athletic for allowing us to stage the game and the help they have provided.''

Latics’ Commercial Manager and Supporter Liaison Officer Jenny Warburton, who will be part of a team cycling 145 miles for Prostate Cancer UK in June, wants to build on the success of previous year’s games: “These charity events help to raise a lot of money and awareness for some really important causes. Once Upon a Smile and Prostate Cancer UK are amazing charities and I expect this year’s event to be the most successful ever!

"We are really looking forward to getting the Latics Legends and OUAS celebrity XI back to SportsDirect.com Park and hope the local community will come out to support such great causes.”
