Whole Team Should Take Credit For Clean Sheets, States Captain

8 April 2016

Captain Liam Kelly believes the full team deserve credit for the club’s recent run of clean sheets.

Latics have not conceded a goal in over 300 minutes of competitive football and the captain believes the whole squad deserves credit for that run.

He said: “We have three clean sheets in a row now so I think that’s full credit to the team.

“The whole team has been defending as one and in recent games, other than the Burton game, Joel has not had a lot of saves to make but when he has been called upon, he’s pulled off the saves he needs to make.”

Kelly will hoping to keep that form going into tomorrow afternoon’s game against high-flying Walsall.

“We got the 1-1 draw off them earlier in the season and I thought it was an even match,” he commented.

"They will be coming here pushing for promotion and they’ve done well this season but we know we can match anyone in this league. We have nothing to fear going into the game.”

Latics have won four of their last five home games and Kelly praised the fans for getting behind the lads.

“The support the other night was fantastic and it was great to get the win but the main thing is we don’t dwell on our previous performances,” he said.

“We have to look forward to the next game and keep doing that because previous results count for nothing."
