Assistant boss Ian Baraclough was pleased with the performance of his players last night as Oldham Athletic beat Manchester United to reach the final of the Lancashire Senior Cup.
With manager Steve Robinson watching from the stands, his number two Baraclough took the players for last night’s game.
Whilst United took the lead in the first half against the run of play, Latics equalised early in the second half courtesy of a Jake Cassidy header.
And Baraclough was pleased with his, and the whole teams performance last night.
"We created six or seven chances in the first half and a penalty shout which we thought was due but second half they came into it more and our legs got a bit heavy but we stayed strong and saw it out.
"It was a first 90 minutes for a few of them so there were a lot of tired legs at the end but they had the presence of mind to take it to penalties and to finish it off.
“You want to win every game so it was pleasing to see the lads step up and put the ball in the back of the net. You ask them to step up and pick their side and that’s what they did.
“I want to win every game, whether it’s a Lancashire Senior Cup game or for three points on Saturday, I want to see the boys show a mindset that we want to win every game."
Latics’ equalising goal from the head of Cassidy could be the lift the striker needs according to Baraclough.
“It’s good for Jake,” he explained. "He pulled off at the back post, the cross came in and that’s where he’s dangerous and he finished it well. It will do the world of good for his confidence.”
With the season fast approaching, and no side still picked for Millwall, Baraclough believes a couple of players might have worked their way into Robinson’s plans.
“I said to them at the start of the game, go and put yourself in the manager’s mind for Saturday and one or two have certainly gone and done that,” he said.
