Defender Cameron Burgess is thoroughly enjoying his loan spell with the club and believes the side are getting better and better with each game.
The Fulham loanee has been part of the defence which has kept three consecutive clean sheets and he believes that the best is yet to come of the team.
He said: “Everyone knows that we are there or thereabouts, we just need to keep building on it but there is a lot of positives from everyone.
“I’m enjoying my loan spell here a lot and everything has been brilliant so far. All the lads have been great and I am loving it.”
Latics recorded a 1-0 victory over local rivals Bury on Saturday and the defender felt Latics thoroughly deserved the win.
“It was a really good performance from the lads and it’s another clean sheet as well so that’s good news for us at the back and it’s something to build on as well,” he commented.
“It was a bit edgy towards the end of the game but we dug in and that’s what we need to do at times but we did it well."
It is another quick turnaround as Athletic travel to Preston North End tomorrow evening in the second round of the EFL Cup.
“We have already played them in pre-season but we’ve come a long way since then so hopefully we can get a good result there,” said Burgess.
"We know it’s going to be a tough game but we will be ready for the game.”
