Clarke: “There Is An Extra Spice To Any Derby Game.”

19 August 2016

Captain Peter Clarke is relishing the chance to get one over his former club tomorrow as Latics travel to Gigg Lane to face Bury.

Clarke captained the Shakers last season putting in good performances which ultimately won him their Player of the Season award.

The defender made the short trip to Latics this summer and wants to show his former side what they are missing.

He said: "It’s where I spent last season but having said that time moves on, players move on and I can’t wait to go back there and do what we have to do and get the result that we want.

"There is an extra spice to any derby game. There is anticipation from players as well as supporters and it’s a game we are thoroughly looking forward to.

“There is always a good turn out from fans who go to Gigg Lane and we hope that’s the case again tomorrow and the fans are in fine voice.

"The changing room is good and the boys are quietly confident. There is a good mood around the boys and good feeling around the dressing room.”

Whilst the defender left on good terms with the Bury fans, he admits he does not know what reception to expect from them

“Hopefully I get a pleasant one but at the same time if it’s not then it won’t be the end of the world and I won’t worry too much,” Clarke commented.

Clarke has been part of a defence which has kept two consecutive clean sheets and believes Latics are a very tough outfit to beat.

"In the last couple of games I think we’ve been really good. The only thing that’s been missing is the goal but we’ve showed that we are solid,” he said.

“We are creating opportunities so it’s just a case of bouncing the ball in off the backside and getting the ball rolling."
