Ryan Flynn Eyeing EFL Cup Second Round

9 August 2016

Midfielder Ryan Flynn is eyeing a place in the second round of the EFL Cup ahead of tonight’s game against Wigan Athletic.

Flynn, who signed for the club this summer from Sheffield United, made his competitive debut for Latics this weekend against Millwall.

Whilst the midfielder was disappointed with the defeat, he knows that tonight will be a completely different game to Saturday.

He said: “It was a few years ago when Oldham went on a good cup run, albeit in the FA Cup, but I can’t see why we can’t do it again.

"This is a cup game, different opposition to Saturday and a totally different game.

“Millwall are very direct but Wigan get the ball down and look to pass through you so we will have to be compact and keep our shape.

"It’s a cup game and it’s a totally different emphasis on the game. We will go and look to get through to the next round.”

The 27-year-old was part of the side which played Wigan Athletic in a pre-season friendly two weeks ago.

“We know their style of play but the main thing is to concentrate on ourselves and keep improving,” he admitted.

“It’s going to be a long season and in football terms the boys don’t know each other much but we have to make sure we get better and better as a unit.

“Everyone knows that a lot of players have come in and we just have to grasp the manager’s ideas quickly and get on with it."
