Youth Team Defeat Doncaster Rovers

22 August 2016

Oldham Athletic youth team continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-0 win away at Doncaster Rovers.

Striker Brendy Glackin put the young Latics ahead in the first half whilst Tom Hamer struck with only 15 minutes remaining to seal the win.

Youth team boss Tony Philliskirk was delighted to get the win and continue the club’s unbeaten run.

He said: “I’m really pleased with not just the result but the performance of the players on Saturday.

“Sometimes you can get good results and say you could have played better, which is what I said last week, but we were very good against Doncaster Rovers.

“We had been working all week on our play in possession, moving the ball quicker, rotation on the pitch and it was great to see the players take that into the performance on Saturday.

“We totally dominated the game and I always felt in control. We won 2-0 and if I had to be ultra critical, we should have scored more goals because we missed four or five guilt edge chances.

“The players proved to me that they are good learners and listeners because they took what we were doing on the training pitch during the week onto the pitch on Saturday and I was delighted with that.

“The Doncaster staff were very complimentary of us after the game which is always a good sign.

“I’m not getting carried away but there is a very strong bond amongst the group at the moment, and there is a good mentality which is just as important as the football.

“The spirit in the dressing room is high at the moment and we just need to keep that going. The lads have got the bit between their teeth and it’s going to take a good team to beat us at the minute.”
