Clarke: “We Fully Respect Lincoln City.”

5 December 2016

Captain Peter Clarke has special memories of the FA Cup and hopes to create even more with Oldham Athletic.

The central defender has been an influential figure at the back for Latics this season and wants to progress through to the third round tonight.

He said: "It’s the magic of the FA Cup. As a football fan, I always look forward to it. Going back over the years I love watching cup finals in the house with my dad.

"It’s always a big day so to be involved in it is always a special. I’ve had some good memories from this competition in the past.

“I’ve played in a quarter final, scored at Stamford Bridge so I’ve had some good ones but on the flip side, I’ve had some which I’d like to forget.

“Personally we want to go as far as we can in the competition.”

Whilst Athletic face National League opposition tonight, Clarke believes it will be a tough encounter.

“We fully respect Lincoln, the same as if we were playing a Premier League side,” he admitted. “We will give them the respect they deserve but we will not fear them.

"We have worked well to be prepared, be ready. We will go there with a game plan and if we execute it the way we have done then we believe we can win the game.”

Clarke praised the fans for their support this season and believes they can play a vital part tonight.

“Going to Lincoln, I’m sure there will be a good atmosphere,” he said. “There fans will make some noise in the early parts of the game so from our point of view, we want to quiet them down.

“If we have good vocal support like we have over previous weeks then they could prove very beneficial to us on Monday.”
