Oldham Athletic players are to donate over £500 from fine money raised throughout the season to fund toys for kids in the children’s ward in the local hospital this Christmas.
The players have a fine system in place which they self police. Fines can be handed out for wearing inappropriate footwear, using mobile phones during lunch or not clearing away general mess. After amounting a healthy sum of money, the players have decided to donate £500 to help children who are not fortunate enough to be at home this festive period.
Speaking about the decision, captain Peter Clarke said: “The players know that at this time of year some children aren’t fortunate enough to spend time at home.
“Therefore, this money is a small gesture to donate for gifts which we hope they would appreciate and it might bring a smile to one or two faces.”
