Wilson Praises Manager’s Impact Since His Arrival

23 February 2016

Defender James Wilson is excelling under new management and in his new position of full back.

Since John Sheridan’s arrival at SportsDirect.com Park, the 26-year-old has made the right back position his own, and provided an assist for the winning goal on Saturday.

He crossed from the right for Jonathan Forte to convert from close range and he admitted a lot of his recent form is due to the new management team.

He said: "It’s down to the manager and the staff. They have helped us calm down and we just concentrate on football and how he wants us to play so we all know now.

"It’s been a tough season for everyone but I’m really starting to enjoy my football again now.

“At the time, it was more of a necessity I played out on the right because of players but now there are players back fit so we will see if I carry on playing there or not.

"I don’t know which position I prefer. I enjoy right back and I enjoy games at centre back as well so I’ll play wherever I’m needed.”

Latics make the trip to Peterborough United tonight, with Wilson part of the travelling party and is hoping to keep the unbeaten run going.

"They are a good footballing team. We have done our homework and think we can get a result from the game and there is no reason why not,” he commented.

"Good pitches have helped us this season. Our away results have been really good this season even though we are where we are in the league so hopefully the good pitch will help us on Tuesday.

“It’s been tough this season and the weather has been horrific so it’s nobodies fault but the away form has definitely helped us."

The last two away games, Latics fans have travelled in their numbers and Wilson was very complimentary: “The away support has been unbelievable,” he admitted.

"We always notice it and it definitely has an effect. Maybe that helps with the away form so hopefully it continues against Peterborough.”
