Youth Team Victorious Against Bradford City

9 February 2016

Tony Philliskirk’s youth team were 5-3 winners against Bradford City on Saturday morning.

Rio Murray grabbed two goals in either half, whilst Ryan Leonard, an own goal and Brendy Glackin were the other scorers as Latics impressively picked up the three points.

However, it was not all plain sailing for Latics, as with five minutes remaining they led 4-1. Two quick goals meant it was nervy times for Philliskirk’s men but Murray’s late goal sealed the win.

Philliskirk said: “It was a game full of incident. First of all, well done to Bradford for getting the game to go ahead because their training ground was damaged by the flood.

“The pitch was in fantastic condition so it made for a great game. We started the game positively and we went into the half time break two goals in front.

“We were in complete control, but to be fair to Bradford, their striker who has been on the verge of the first team has scored a great individual goal at the start of the second half to bring them back in it.

“It was nip and tuck for 20 minutes but we scored two goals to make it a bit more comfortable. However, they then scored two quick goals to make it 4-3 so from cruising, we became really nervous.

“We hacked one off the line and it was crazy but we then broke down the other end and made it 5-3 so for 86 minutes we were in total control and we played well.

“Their staff at the end said we deserved to win the game so it was a pleasing performance against a very good team.”
