Midfielder Ryan Flynn is excited to get started with Oldham Athletic as he became Steve Robinson’s ninth signing of the week yesterday.
The 27-year-old joined on a two-year contract from Sheffield United and admits he is happy to finally get his future resolved.
He said: "I’m happy to get myself back playing really. There was some uncertainty for me in the summer but I spoke to the gaffer and I’m really looking forward to it now.
“It didn’t take as long to get sorted as people would think. I spoke to the gaffer last week and things moved very quickly. He’s very positive and I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead.”
That takes the number of signings to nine now, but Flynn, who knows of a couple of players in the team, believes unity is the key as Robinson builds a brand new team.
“When players are signing you see their names pop up and I’ve played against a few,” he admitted.
“I know of Billy Mckay because he’s been playing in Scotland so I’m looking forward to meeting the rest of the lads.
"We have to get together as a team because that’s the most important thing. The only way you can be successful is coming together as a team so that’s what we’ve got to do.”
For fans who are unfamiliar with the midfielder, he gave them a flavour of what to expect from him this coming season.
“I like to get on the ball and play but I will do whatever the manager asks me to do,” he explained.
“I will look to help the team so if I can create the goals and score the goals to help the team then that’s what I’ll do."
Looking to the future, Flynn believes he is at a good age now to be successful.
“When you are younger, you make more mistakes but I know what it takes now to win games and hopefully I can help the team,” he said.
