Youth Team Defender Called Up To Represent Northern Ireland Under 19s

18 March 2016

Youth team defender Dylan King has been called up to the Northern Ireland under 19 squad for their UEFA European U19 Championships in Holland.

The 17-year-old, who has been called up to the squad for the first time, will join up with Stephen Craigan’s squad on Sunday, March 20.

Here are the fixtures King could be involved in:

March 24 - Poland v Northern Ireland
March 26 - Holland v Northern Ireland
March 29 - Northern Ireland v Ukraine

King said: “I’m very happy that I’ve been called up. It was a surprise but I’m delighted to get the call.

“It’s my first time with the under 19s, I’ve been with the under 17s before but this will be a different experience and one I’m looking forward to.

“I played against the Netherlands at under 17 level so they’re going to have a lot more quality in their squad but I’m excited to be involved.”

Youth team boss Tony Philliskirk added: “I’m really pleased for Dylan and it’s well deserved as in the last two or three months he has improved so much.

“He is new to our system and it took him time to adapt but he’s learnt a lot and he has been one of our most consistent players.

“He’s now got this international recognition which is not just fantastic for Dylan and his family, but it’s fantastic for the club.

“He is only 17 and he’s been called up to the 19s so it’s a great achievement and will be a good opportunity for him.”

We would like to wish Dylan the best of luck on international duty.
