Kelly: “We Need To Put A Performance On For The Fans.”

7 May 2016

Captain Liam Kelly wants to put on a five star performance tomorrow to send supporters home in good spirits for next season.

The midfielder, who has another year left on his contract, believes it is important his side put on a good performance tomorrow to reward the fans for their support this season.

He said: “The main thing for us is to put a performance on for the fans in what has been a tough season.

“We are glad to be in the position we are in considering the position we were in in January so the main thing is to put a good show on for everyone at this football club.

"I want to thank them for their support throughout what’s been a tough season. I’m thankful we managed to keep ourselves in the league and hopefully we build on that for next season and win on Sunday.”

Reflecting on the season, Kelly cited the influence of the manager in staying in Sky Bet League One.

“The league table was really hard to look at back then but the manager came in and gave us all a lift,” he admitted.

"Everything just started to pick up, clean sheets, wins and things just got brighter and brighter. The main thing now is that we continue this form into next season.

“We can’t afford to be in the position we have been this season.

“There is no point in looking at surviving relegation or being mid table next season as we have shown over recent weeks we are capable of being near the top and that will be the target.”
